Liuzhou
Liuzhou or Liuchow, N central Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, S China, on the Liu River. At the intersection of highways and three railroads, it is a manufacturing town with important paper and wood-product industries, a large integrated iron and steel complex, machine shops, motor-vehicle and chemical plants, textile mills, and food-processing establishments.
Geography
Liuzhou is located on the banks of the winding Liu River, approximately 255 km away from Nanning, the provincial capital. Liuzhou is the first city that the Liu River passes. Therefore, the water here is very clear. Swimming in the river is a tradition of the city.
History
Liuzhou enjoys a long history of more than 2100 years. Liuzhou is a famous historic and cultural city designated by the State Council. The most famous historic figure is Liu Zongyuan, who was a poet and politician in the Tang Dynasty and died in Liuzhou.
Economy
It is the second largest city in Guangxi and the province's industrial center. In ??, the total industrial output was 65.56 billion RMB (about US$ 7.9 billion), which was nearly 1/3 of the total industrial output of Guangxi autonomous region. The tertiary sector, however, is far less prosperous than the industrial sector.
